✦ Synopsis

An assignment of the bands in the photoelectron spectrum of carbon tetrafluoride is made by comparison with calculated molecuIar orbital energies: we deduce a similar assignment for the bands in the spectra of silicon and germanium tetrafluorides and make some suggestions about the bonding in these compounds.

The He I and He II photoelectron spectra of phosphoryl chloride, POCI a, have been measured. Because of :he relative intensity loss for He !! radiation experienced by ion states formed by ionization of localized C1 non-bonding e! ectrons, the two spectra show considerable differences. By combining N
