Methyl orange dissolved in a water-in-oil microemulsion was clarify the position and state of MO in the microemulsion. examined by UV-VIS absorption spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Methyl orange showed two tempera-MATERIALS AND METHODS ture-dependent peaks at 416 and 354 nm in the microemulsion. The former was attributed to a methyl orange monomer, and the A microemulsion was produced by mixing 1.546 g (2 mL) latter to aggregates of the dye in the parallel orientation (H-aggreof hexadecane, 0.618 g (0.8 mL) of n-hexanol, 0.352 g of gates) at the interface between the water phase and the oil phase oleic acid neutralized with an appropriate amount of potasin the microemulsion. The position of methyl orange in the microsium hydroxide aqueous solution (6.18 mol/L), 0.600 g of emulsion was verified by DSC analysis. α­§ 1997 Academic Press water or D 2 O and various amounts of MO in a test tube.
