β¦ Synopsis
We prepared the Bi 2 Sr 2 Ca nΓ1 Cu n O y (Bi-based) whiskers by a method of Al 2 O 3 -seeded quenched glassy platelets, changing atmospheres of growth. It is very important to seed Al 2 O 3 particles on the surface of the glassy platelets in order the whiskers to grow at higher rate. From the results, we found that the growth rates and the critical temperatures of the whiskers were independent of oxygen gas flow rates, whereas the critical current density was dependent on such parameters. In addition, the superconducting property of the whiskers was affected by oxygen partial pressures, and the whiskers did not grow in Ar gas.
