✦ Synopsis
Growth kinetrcs of Rhizopus urrhizus MUCL 28168 were determined for different treatments of cassava during solid state fermentation. The best case gave a specific growth rate (piof 0.24 h-l, a yield calculated on a basis that oxygen consumption ( YxIo ) was 2.9 g biomass . g -' 02, consumed and the maintenance coefficient (m) was 0.004 g O2 consumed . g -I biomass . h-l.

Solid state fermentations were carried out using a strain of Rhizopus formosa MUCL 28422 for its ability to grow on raw cassava. Optimal substrate composition, as estimated by surface response design experiments, was 10% each of cassava bagasse and soybean ¯our and 80% cassava ¯our. Optimal fermenta

Sugar cane bagasse was water-or alkali-treated at three liquid/solid (L/S) ratios and its digestibility was measured as microbial protein production of Chaetomium cellulolyticum grown on solid-state fermentation columns. The treatments significantly enhanced fungus growth compared to non-treated bag
