✦ Synopsis

It now appears that the molecular events associated with the mitogenic action of growth factors are also the events perturbed in neoplastic lesions. This review outlines the relevance of our recent progress in the biochemistry of growth factors and their receptors to the induction and maintenance of the neoplastic state.

There have been a number of recent developments in mechanisms of action of growth factors and their receptors with particular relevance to cancer. The tyrosine kinase receptor family, in particular, has been shown to be important in tumour growth. These receptors are the products of oncogenes, or ca

Growth factors (GFs) are a class of proteins that bind to specific cell surface receptors (GF-Rs), inducing a variety of responses including mitosis, in susceptible target cells. Abnormal production, expression, and/or function of GFs or GF-Rs can result in unregulated growth, the hallmark of malign
