โฆ Synopsis
Halleys's Comet and ASC 86 are two notable scientific events occurring this year. If you fail to attend ASC 86, you miss a unique opportunity. Never will you have another chance to participate in the first triple anniversary meeting in applied superconductivity. If you miss Halley's Comet, another sighting is only 76 years away! The 1986 Applied Superconductivity Conference takes place in the Baltimore Hyatt Regency Hotel overlooking picturesque Baltimore Inner Harbor in Maryland, USA, from 28 September to 3 October, 1986.
This meeting provides a bench mark to measure three quarters of a century of progress in research and applications of superconductivity.
The most important anniversary event is the H. Kamerlingh Onnes Symposium on the Origins of Applied Superconductivity which will commemorate the 75th anniversary of the discovery of superconductivity. It takes place on Wednesday morning 1 October. Several early researchers, prominent scientists and Nobel Laureates will take part. In addition, the twin 25th anniversaries of high-field superconductivity and the Josephson effect will be highlighted in special technical sessions. Participants from Europe, Japan, USSR and the US will review recent developments in major summary papers. Finally, we commemorate the 20th anniversary of the first Applied Supcrconductivity Conferencc held at Brookhaven National Laboaratory in 1966. The celebratory event is an opening-day morning session on 29 September, devoted to exploring international co-operation in superconductivity. Noted experts from Europe, Japan. and the US will discuss means of implementing international collaborative activities.
The technical programme includes more than 300 invited and contributed papers in oral and poster sessions covering the following l0 subject categories:
