The application of new techniques, particularly the identification of tumour markers, in the study of testicular germ cell tumours is presently leading to a reassessment of opinions regarding the origin and classification of these neoplasms. Some aspects of this controversy are examined.
Autopsy findings are reviewed in 154 patients treated for germ cell tumors of the testis. OF the patients with apparently pure seminoma, 44% had autopsy evidence of nonseminomatous metastases. For all tumor types, the most common sites of distant metastasis were lung (89%), liver (73%), brain (31%),
have seen three more patients with both RCC and the tumor of the left testis. The specific type of subsequent cancer may depend partly on alterations NHL. Two of these three patients had metachronous tumors; however, one patient who underwent ne-in the microenvironment that is ''bathing'' the stem c
