β¦ Synopsis
Introduction to Urban Geosimulation
Geosimulation is a catch-all title that can be used to represent a very recent wave of research in geography. In a broad sense, the field of geosimulation is concerned with the design and construction of object-based high-resolution spatial models, using these models to explore ideas and hypotheses about how spatial systems operate, developing simulation software and tools to support object-based simulation, and applying simulation to solving real problems in geographic contexts.
In this book, we focus on urban applications of geosimulation; our consideration of geosimulation focuses on urban geosimulation.

## System Theory, Geography, and Urban Modeling This chapter serves two main purposes. First, it provides a general overview of complex system theory, focusing on aspects of relevance to urban modeling. Second, it offers an investigation of the achievements and failures of a first wave of urban mo
