β¦ Synopsis
Seventy-six strains of adenovirus type 37 (AV37), isolated during a period of 10 years from 73 patients on three continents, were analysed with eight DNA restriction endonucIeases. Strains identical with the prototype (56 strains) prevailed; four deviating genome types were found, which differed only slightly from the prototype, with one exception. Half of the strains were tested in detail by neutralisation and haemagglutination inhibition. Minor differences in neutralisation were not reflected by differences in DNA restriction patterns. In comparison to genome types of other subgenera, field strains of adenovirus 37 showed only a moderate genetic variability.

Five hundred eighty-seven adenovirus type 3 (Ad3) isolates were established from children with acute respiratory infections (ARI) from 1986 to 1991, in Yamagata, Japan. Ad3 could be found in almost all the months during the 6 years when two epidemics occurred, i n 1987 and 1989. A molecular epidemio
Genome analysis was carried out on 74 adenovirus 4 (Ad41 isolates from patients in Manchester between 1984 and 1989. Most of the isolates were associated with conjunctivitis. Of the 74 isolates studied, 51 were Ad4a and 10 were Ad4p (the prototype strain). The remaining isolates consisted of two new
Adenovirus type 7 is the type most frequently associated with serious disease. Eighteen different genome types of adenovjrus type 7 had been reported up to October 1986. The genome type Ad7c, based on the restriction enzyme profiles of SmaI and BarnH1, has been reported from Europe prior to 1969 and
New genome types of Ad3 and Ad7 were found among adenovirus (Ad) strains isolated from stools of children during epidemiological surveys made in SΓ£o Paulo, Brazil, and Buenos Aires, Argentina. These were characterized by DNA analysis with 11 restriction endonucleases and showed a number of new restr
