✦ Synopsis

Abstract

The derivation of a lumped‐element equivalent circuit of a device is a fundamental topic in electronic and electromagnetic analysis. Here, a fully automatic genetic algorithm is devised and implemented to perform this task. The proposed method not only recovers the values of the lumped element, but also automatically synthesizes the topology of the equivalent circuit. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ## Abstract This Letter presents a method for extracting the lumped‐element equivalent‐circuit models of microstrip discontinuities by using the finite‐difference–time‐domain (FDTD) method. The cascading properties of the ABCD matrix are used to de‐embed the attachment lines, leading to the two‐por

## Abstract A novel numerical approach for the efficient synthesis of dispersion‐flattened fibers is presented. This approach is based on the combination of genetic algorithms and finite elements. Severe constraints, such as a given maximum monochromatic dispersion level and maximum flatness over a
