โœฆ Synopsis

High energy phonons (ttw/k$lOK) and R+ rotons can be injected into liquid 4He by a thin film heater. It is shown that these excitations may interact with the large number of low energy phonons which are also emitted. The conditions for avoiding this are analysed and compared to measurements.
