โœฆ Synopsis

It is well know that gel formation and, in particular, gel-space ratio within cement paste has a considerable bearing on the strength and mechanical properties of concrete.

This paper describes investigations into a method for monitoring the temporal changes in gel-space ratio within cement paste employing wlde-band frequency response techniques.

The concentrations of calcium and silica in solution during the first 4 hours of C3S hydration were measured. The results of these analyses indicate that a solid calcium silicate hydrate forms within 30 seconds of the start of hydration and that an equilibrium between the solution and the solid hyd
