โฆ Synopsis
US sales of seals, gaskets and packings will grow from just under $3 billion in 1992 to $4 billion by the year 2000, forecasts a new study released by Frost and Sullivan.
Electromagnetic intereference (EMI) gaskets will grow most rapidly of all product segments during the forecast period, with an average annual growth rate of 5.2%, while compression packings will grow the slowest, at a 2.5% average annual level, says the report "US Gasket Packing and Mechanical Sealing Device Market~ t.
Moulded packings formed the largest single share of the total market in 1992, closely followed by metallic gaskets and rotary seals, these three categories combined make up 53% of the market.
Other segments, ranked in order of decreasing size, include elastomeric gaskets, gaskets in fibre and graphite, axial seals, O-rings, compresssion packings and EMI gaskets.
Hydraulic cylinders will lead growth by application, with a projected 4.5% annual growth rate, while heat exchangers trail the market at 1.8%. Engines and their parts are the largest application for seals, gaskets and packings, accounting for some 45% of market revenues, a proportion which Frost and Sullivan predict will stay fairly constant through the decade ahead. Other applications include use in valves, joints and pumps.
Table 2 (opposite, on p.5) shows the revenue forecasts by type of application from 1994 to 2000.
