β¦ Synopsis
In investigating the kinetics of the transesterification reactions of dimethyl terephthalatc with ethylene glycol, determination of the product distribution isachieved by gas-liquid chromatographic analysis. Silylation of hydroxyl groups prior to chromatography was found to be necessary in obtaining reproducible results for the glycol esters of terephthalic acid. Silylation prolonged the analysis but yielded excellent data.
