โฆ Synopsis
Part I of a Commodity Futures Bibliography. Additional sections of this Commodity Futures Bibliography will be published in the next issues. Currency futures, stock index futures, regulation issues, and other topics will follow.
These bibliographies were deemed necessary due to the wide diversity of publications where futures topics are published; the need for a central publication listing of such articles to reduce search efforts; and to highlight articles in a similar subject area by providing a bibliography by topic. In general, the articles and dissertations listed below meet two basic criteria: (1) They present new ideas, concepts, theory, or empirical results not discussed elsewhere, or they synthesize material effectively; and (2) they can be obtained easily. Thus, trade journal and financial press articles are usually not listed, except for some "Introductory Articles" listed in Section B. Also, academic working papers are not presented in this initial bibliography due to lack of space, lack of accessibility, and other considerations. An exception to this rule is the working paper series from the Center for the Study of Futures Markets at Columbia University. These papers can be obtained at a nominal charge from The Center.
Bibliographies that include an exhaustive listing of trade journal articles and exchange published material, plus some privately published books and reports can be obtained from the Chicago Board of Trade via their "Commodity Futures Trading: Bibliography" (1976 cumulative issue plus annual updates) as compiled by Anne Peck (Stanford Food Research Institute) and Laura Oatney (The Chicago Board of Trade). These bibliographies were very beneficial to this editor in compiling this bibliography. Finally, most dissertations can be obtained from University Microfilms, 300 N.
