โœฆ Synopsis

Edited by Robert T. Daigler his issue of The Journal of Futures Markets initiates a new section devoted to T source material related to futures markets. Although this initial effort focuses on interest rate futures, subsequent issues will cover all commodities. The objective is to provide a central listing of articles, books, and other items related to futures markets and futures trading.

In general, the articles and dissertations listed by topic below meet two basic criteria: (1) they present new ideas, concepts, theories, or empirical results; or they synthesize such material effectively; and (2) they can be obtained easily. Thus, trade journal and financial press articles are usually not listed. Moreover, only academic working papers made available by the authors will be included in future issues (see below). The working paper series from the Center for the Study of Futures Markets at Columbia University can be obtained at a nominal charge from the Center.

Bibliographies that include trade journal articles, working papers, and articles on the cash markets are available from other sources. In particular, one may obtain from the Chicago Board of Trade their "Interest Rate Futures: Bibliography" as compiled and periodically updated by Joanne Hill (University of Massachusetts). Also, the extensive bibliographies in Kolb (A2) and Gay and Kolb (Al) and a bibliographical listing from the editor of this section include both trade journal articles, working papers, and articles on the cash financial markets. In addition, the concepts and theoretical ideas developed for commodity futures are often applicable for financial futures. Many significant commodity futures articles can be found in Selected Writings of Holbrook Working, Selected Writings on Futures Markets, and Views From the Trade, all edited by Anne Peck (Stanford Food Research Institute) and published by the Chicago Board of Trade. Furthermore, Getting Started in Commodity Futures Trading by Mark J. Powers (Investor Publications) contains a complete bibliography of material published prior to 1974.

Future issues of The Journal of Futures Markets will include bibliographies on commodity futures, currency futures, regulation issues, and other topics. Updates of these bibliographies will also be given. Additions to the bibliography given below (and new material) should be brought to the attention of the editor of this section so that they may be included in the updates. Moreover, authors with working papers who are willing to provide copies to interested parties should send a copy
