Dendrigraft polystyrene was prepared using poly(p-chloromethyl styrene) as the multicentre initiator by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The resulting polymer was characterized with light scattering, intrinsic viscosity, thermal analysis and atomic force microscopy (AFM) imaging. The AFM

Abstract
Peripherally functionalized arborescent polystyrenes (PS) of various architectures and chain parameters (backbone DP~n~, number and DP~n~ of branches, number of termini and functions) were prepared by covalently assembling different elementary building blocks of controlled DP~n~, synthesized using anionic and cationic polymerization techniques. These multifunctional dendritic macromolecules have narrow polydispersities (<β1,2), and exhibit molar masses ranging from 1βΓβ10^5^ to 5βΓβ10^6^ g/mol for combs, and from 3βΓβ10^6^ to 13βΓβ10^6^ g/mol for dendrigrafts. In this latter series the number of terminal bis(hydroxymethyl) functions per macromolecule can be as high as 2β000. The calculated loading capacity (number of functional groups/g of polymer) was found to depend mainly on the molar mass of the last PS building block. It can approach 10^β3^ eq/g for low PS DP~n~ grafts (DP~n~βββ10).

A bifunctional tetraethylene glycol (TEG) linker was prepared and used as an initiator for the synthesis of the first two generations of dendrigraft poly-l-lysines (DGL). The key steps involved the desymmetrization of TEG by introduction of an amine group after activation of a terminal hydroxyl grou
## Abstract **Summary:** We prepared surfaceβgrafted polystyrene (PS) beads with combβlike poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) chains. To accomplish this, conventional gelβtype PS beads (35β75 ΞΌm) were treated with ozone gas to introduce hydroperoxide groups onto the surface. Using these hydroperoxide grou
