โข Advanced Torque Tester -a custom-designed, stateof-the-art system simulates high pressure-velocity (PV) conditions while continuously monitoring critical performance parameters such as seal face pressure, friction torque, fluid and seal face temperatures, and energy consumption. โข Blistering Tester -this test stand is used to assess the tendency of carbon, carbon graphite, and composite materials to blister under cyclic PV conditions. โข Surface Characterization -an interference microscope is used to characterize surface topography, providing surface topography, providing surface contour plots and surface roughness statistics. Complementary equipment includes a light microscope, a scanning electron microscope equipped with elemental analysis capabilities, a porosimeter, and a coordinate measuring machine. Torque and load sensors are calibrated on a dedicated MTS tensile testing machine. Much of the work will specifically address mechanical seals with laboratory research focusing on extending seal life cycles, reducing seal energy consumption, and reducing seal emissions levels. Other areas to be addressed are the testing of seal face materials and of barrier fluid compatibility. In addition, the laboratory will carry out routine product testing for Durametallic Corporation.
