โฆ Synopsis
The present standards for fracture mechanics testing are originally developed for the testing of plain material, and it is now widely accepted that the procedures must be revised when weldments are tested[l-31. The present papers highlights two aspects of fracture mechanics testing of weldments (particularly the HAZ). First the importance of differentiating between general materials characterization and weldment testing, and secondly arguments for substituting the through thickness notch with surface notches.
