## Abstract The main advantages of using supercritical fluids for the extractions of organic pollutants from environmental matrix is that they are inexpensive, contaminant free, and less costly to dispose safely than organic solvents. In this work, a series of extraction experiments were carried ou

✦ Synopsis
Nitrated and hydroxylated polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons nitro-. and hydroxy-PAHs extracted from air particulates were fractionated from other micropollutants by semipreparative packed-column supercritical fluid chromatography on silicagel. Sample injection and fraction collection was automated by means of a Gilson 233 XL sample preparation station. The collected fractions were analyzed by capillary gas chromatography᎐mass spectrometry operated in the ion-monitoring mode. For some specific solutes, concentrations down to the 1 pgrm 3 level could be measured. ᮊ 1998
