✦ Synopsis
Traditional approaches to curriculum design and student evaluation are inadequate to meet the needs of adult and other non-traditional learners, especially in professionallyrelevant undergraduate education. The article provides a rationale for the adoption of a competence-based approach to curriculum design and a brief description of such a model that was subsequently piloted and implemented. The authors conclude with the view that, based upon data generated from the piloting of this Theory-Practice Curriculum Model, and the conclusions of professionals, evaluators, and authorities in the field, such a model is ideally suited for meeting the needs of our targeted population.
