✦ Synopsis

Measurements of weak

fluorescence of IJF6 in the gas phase are reported. Fluorescence with a quantum yield of ==S X lo-' can be detected between 400 and 460 nm. The excitation spectrum indicates that the fluorescence disappears for excitation wavelength shorter than 360 nm..The decay time depends strongly on UF6 partial pressure and temperature.

The fluorescence of CFCl and CC12 excited by a tunable dye laser has been observed in the gas phase. The radiative lifetimes are 644 f 18 and 3810 i 300 ns respectively consistent with matrix results. The quenching rate ofCCl2 is greater than for CpCl and varies with the wavelength of excitation.
