✦ Synopsis

Solutions of benzene in 02 free cyclohexane gave on illumination at 2.54 nm tluorescence yields which were Lower rip nit;,ctintly in the presence of Xe, than in its absence. The photochemicd yield of benzvdene was unaffected. The results support the assumption that :his photochemistry originates in nowrelaxed states before the fluorescent Ieve is Leached.

The fluorescence lifetime, rf, of 9-cyanoanthracene (9CNA) in the supercritical fluid (SF) of Xe (6.8 MPa at 293 K) is found to be 2.39 \_ 0.13 ns, which is much shorter than the 17.78 \_+ 0.43 ns measured in SF of CO 2. This large decrease in Tf is interpreted in terms of the vibronic-level-depende

For metal(II1) [M(III)] S-sulphoquinolin-%olates, systematic studies of the atomic number effect in complexes exhibiting ligand fluorescence were carried out in aqueous solution. The fluorescence lifetimes of various chelates were investigated as a function of complexed metal ion, pH and metal-to-li
