✦ Synopsis
Tensile tests on Ni, (AI*Ti) single crystals were carried out to elucidate the mechanism of the positive temperature dependence of the work hardening rate and CRSS as a function of orientation below room temperature. The increment of the maximum work hardening rate 0," is satisfactorily expressed only by the Schmid factor ratio .V = (010) [iOl]/(l I I) [TOI]. Thus. the positive temperature dependence of 0." can be attributed to the cross slipping of screw superdislocations onto the ( 010) planes leading to the dragging of dislocation motion on the (I 11) planes. On the other hand, the increment of the CRSS, r. is also correlated to the N values, however the straight line relationship between T and N does not pass through the original point. Consequently;. the positive temperature dependence of the CRSS is thought to be governed by two mechanisms. One is the Kear-Wilsdorf mechanism, which depends on orientation. The other arises from the orientation independent factor, although it's exact mechanism is obscure at present.
