โœฆ Synopsis

Boron can be determined spectrofluorimetrically based on the reaction of borate ion and Alizarin Red S in aqueous media using flow-injection analysis. The carrier stream was deionized water and the reagent streams were 1% (w/v) EDTA, phosphate buffer (pH 7.5) and 2 X lo-' M Alizarin Red S solutions. The injection rate was 50 hb'. The calibration graph was linear up to 40 pg ml-' boron and the relative standard deviation for the determination of 4.0 pg ml-' of boron was 0.83% (n = 10). The detection limit was 0.34 kg ml-' based on injection volumes of 250 ~1. The system was applied to the determination of boron in electroplating solutions.

The complexation of Alizarin Red S (ARS) at the surface of hydrous fluorite particles has been investigated by means of potentiometric titrations, adsorption experiments, and zeta-potential measurements in 0.1 mol dm(-3) KCl ionic medium at 25.0 degrees C, as well as by UV/visible specular reflectan
