We report detailed comparisons between theoretical and empirical eigenfunctions of velocity and intensity for the 5-min modes in the photosphere. The comparison process is accomplished by obtaining synthetic profiles of the FeI 25434 ~ line in the presence of waveforms given by dynamical calculation
Absolute wavelengths for Fraunhofer lines are compared with laboratory measurements for several atomic and molecular spectra. The wavelength differences are shown to be consistent with the proposal that the deeper layers of the photosphere are in convective motion: ve -~ 3 km/sec for log To> --1.0.
A Cassegrain telescope with a resolution of 2 sec of arc was successfully flown in an Aerobee-150 rocket from White Sands Missile Range on October 20, 1965. A pinhole, 33/t in diameter, was placed at the focus of the telescope, followed by a photo-ionization detector with a lithium-fluoride window.
The longitudinal waves (Bernstein modes and plasma waves near the hybrid frequency) in a mixture of equilibrium coronal plasma and a small group of energetic electrons are investigated. The energetic electrons have a nonequilibrium momentum distribution inherent in trapped particles. The frequency d
