Objective: To report a case of fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva (FOP) initially presenting as a neck mass and highlight the clinical relevance to the practicing otolaryngologist. Setting: Tertiary care children's hospital. Methods: Chart review, case report Manifestations in the head and neck include ankylosis of the temporomandibular joint and conductive hearing loss from middle ear ossification.1 Patients with FOP develop thoracic insufficiency syndrome. Thoracic insufficiency syndrome leads to pneumonia and right sided heart failure. 3
There is no cure for FOP and medical intervention is supportive.
