✦ Synopsis

The equilibrium properties of three acid-base indicators immobilized on a non-ionic polymer and on an ion-exchange resin were investigated using fibre-optic reflectometry. Kubetia-Munk functions derived from the reflectance data were used to determine the acidity constants.

The results indicate that the ionization of indicators immobilized on a non-polar surface was less extensive than when it was immobilized on an ionic solid resin. The "solvent" model for adsorption on a polymer surface was supported by these observations.
