Abstract
Fertilization abnormalities are commonly encountered following in vitro fertilization. The widespread introduction of assisted fertilization methods has rapidly led to a changes in both the incidence and types of these aberrations. Such abnormalities can be identified by careful morphological evaluation at the early zygote stage, of pronuclei as well as of polar body formation, and may be confirmed by cytogenetic assessment. The recognition and understanding of fertilization abnormalities have led to the development of novel techniques aimed at preventing them, as well as recent bold attempts at correction. Removal of one pronucleus may allow some triploid embryos to revert to a normal diploid stage. These new developments should provide insight into the understanding of parthenogenesis, androgenesis, and gynogenesis in the human. Microsc. Res. Tech. 61:358β361, 2003. Β© 2003 WileyβLiss, Inc.

## Abstract Rat epididymal spermatozoa, at a concentration of 40β65 Γ 10^4^ cells/ml, were preincubated for 5β5.5 hr and then added to eggs from superovuβlated, immature rats. By 10β12 hr after insemination, 86% of the eggs had undergone fertilization, but many of them (41%) were polyspermic. When

The measurement of the ATP content of fresh semen is as accurate as the estimation of sperm motility by conventional methods in discriminating between semen of fertile versus subfertile men. The ATP content of frozen thawed donor semen is correlated with the probability of conception per cycle of in
