✦ Synopsis
Spontaneous polarisation P, and tilt angle 0 of induced ferroelectric Sy phases in mixed systems were measured as a function of mole fraction xo. Both quantities depend non-linearly on the composition of the mixture, but the quantity PO= P,/sin 0 shows a linear dependence on xo. A new material constant, the polarisation power 6r=dP,,(xo)/d&, is defined.

## Abstract A series of smectic C^\*^ liquid‐crystalline (LC) block copolymers were successfully synthesized via the living anionic polymerization of polystyrene with optically active methacrylate monomers containing (__S__)‐2‐methylbutyl 4‐(4‐hydroxyphenylcarbonyloxy)‐biphenyl‐4′‐carboxylate mesog
This work is intended to be a brief introduction to smectic A and chiral smectic A liquid crystals and current research topics focusing on chiral smectic A liquid crystalline membranes. We derive the elastic free energies of smectic A and chiral smectic A phases, as well as the surface energies of s
