โœฆ Synopsis

A theory of equivalent "elds is studied, analogous to equivalent circuits in network theory. A complex geometry where electromagnetic "eld has to be studied is subdivided into subdomains; for each of them an equivalent subdomain is found, that has the same external behaviour but a minimum number of interpolatory nodes. The electromagnetic "eld solution relevant to the complete geometry is found by solving the global equivalent model that is obtained by assembling the equivalent subdomain models.

This technique allows signi"cant reductions in computer times when dealing with problems where:

(1) detailed results are sought only in small portions of large "eld problems;

(2) a large number of FEM analyses is requested, each problem di!ering from the others only for limited changes in the materials and/or in the geometry of a sub-region, such as in optimization problems.

## Abstract In the paper the BEM and FEM results have been compared in the context of 2D electromagnetic field analysis in a zoned medium with eddy current subregions. The practical problem concerning the turbogenerator end region has been discussed. The magnetic flux density over the surface of th
