โฆ Synopsis
Two fatigue models are compared: crack growth with constant crack tip radius and sharpening of crack tip with constant length of crack. By an experimental comparison of dynamic fatigue curves with crack growth measurements it was possible to refute the thesis according to which the fatigue processes of silicate glass were determined solely by crack tip sharpening.

From the study of the crack propagation data in fatigue, a parameter in the form P=mlogSK+C has been suggested, where the slope m and the intercept C are functions of the variables like stress ratio R, frequency w, and temperature T. number of stochastic models of fatigue crack growth under constant amplitude cyclic loading are assessed in the light of experimental data. Particular attention is paid to the predictive performance of the models under a change in the initial crack length and generally it is found that the models pr
