number of stochastic models of fatigue crack growth under constant amplitude cyclic loading are assessed in the light of experimental data. Particular attention is paid to the predictive performance of the models under a change in the initial crack length and generally it is found that the models provide a poor estimate of the standard deviation of the number of cycles to failure. A new model is then introduced which shows improved agreement with the experimental data.
