## Abstract We introduce a novel technique to monitor the optical signal‐to‐noise ratio (OSNR) using a Mach–Zehnder interferometer. The error of the novel method is less than 0.5 dB when the OSNR is between 10 and 40 dB in the best working case. In practice, the dynamic range reduces to 10–30 dB be

✦ Synopsis
Abstract
Optical flip‐flops formed from two coupled Mach–Zehnder interferometers are presented. The interferometers employ semiconductor optical amplifiers in their arms. The flip‐flops are demonstrated via simulations and experiments. Low switching energy and very high speed are possible in spite of the relatively slow semiconductor optical amplifier carrier recovery time. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ## Abstract In this article, the output spectrum have been numerically analyzed in order to investigate the temperature characteristics of the all‐optical add/drop multiplexer. It is shown that the center Bragg wavelength shifts by about 0.014223 nm when the temperature increases by 1°C in a range
## Abstract We propose and experimentally demonstrate a simple and novel optical transmitter for 10‐Gbit/s dark RZ signals. The proposed transmitter comprises a phase modulator and a delayed line Mach‐Zehnder (DL‐MZ) interferometer. Different duty cycle and extinction ratio of dark RZ signals can b
The performance of ultrafast all-optical demultiplexer using quantum-dot semiconductor optical amplifiers (QD-SOAs) assisted Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) is analyzed. Through numerical simulations, a set of key parameters are optimized and all-optical demultiplexing from 160/320 Gbit/s to 40 Gb
