✦ Synopsis


The preparation of l-methyl-2,3-benzo-6-oxabicyclo[3.2.l]octane-4,7-dione and l-methyl-2,3-benzo-6-oxabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-4,7-dione is reported by facile intramolecular cyclization of the corresponding bromotetralone. 4-Methyl-4carboxyl-1-tetralone is cyclized under the conditions of bromination. 4-Methyl-1-tetralone-4-acetic acid is cyclized only on continued heating of the a-bromoketone in acetic acid.
