Dow Chemical's research activities in fuel cells revolve around the development of perfluorosulfonic acid membranes, useful as the proton transport medium and separator. The following work will outline some of the performance characteristics which are typical for such membranes.

## Abstract Degradation processes of both sulfonated polyimide (sPI) and sulfonated polyetheretherketone (sPEEK) membranes were studied inβsitu in fuel cells. __Exβsitu__ ageing protocols were developed for both polymers and model compounds. On the one hand sulfonated polyimides are shown to be mai
It has been reported that a thin polybenzimidazole (PBI)/poly(tetrafluoro ethylene) (PTFE) composite membrane (thickness 25-30 m) can be prepared by impregnating a thin porous PTFE (thickness 15-20 m) in a PBI/N,N -dimethyl actamide (DMAc) solution. In this paper, a 400 h life test of a fuel cell pr
