✦ Synopsis

The p u r p o s e o f the present study was to compare the satisfaction rates obtained for vacuum constriction devices with those achieved using intracavernous p h a r m a c o l o g i c injections in a group o f patients afflicted with erectile dysfunction. The subjects were stratified into three groups: group 1 failed to achieve an a d e q u a t e erection on p h a r m a c o l o g i c injection, group 2 achieved satisfactory erection following p h a r m a c o l o g i c injection, and group 3 was left untreated. All patients were given a vacuu m constriction device. We assessed their satisfaction using a questionnaire. The data suggest high satisfaction rates in all three groups. O f particular interest was that over half o f the patients who had successfully been treated with p h a r m a c o l o g i c injections switched to the vacuum constriction device at the end of the study. The d a t a indicate high levels o f patient satisfaction with the vacuum constriction devices, even a m o n g subjects in w h o m prior alternative impotence therapy had been successful.
