✦ Synopsis

Syntheses of [4]peristylane-2,4,6-trione (11) and 2,4,6,8-tetraone (17) are described. In 17, all four of the methylene carbons present in the parent [4]peristylane ring system are seen to be oxidized. The C4, symmetry of the tetraketone is reflected in its physical and spectral properties.
