✦ Synopsis

BACKGROUND. Tissue factor (TF), a cell surface receptor of factor VIIIVIIa, was initially recognized as an initiator of the extrinsic coagulation pathway. TF has recently been found to be expressed highly in certain types of malignant tumors. In addition, TF belongs to the interferon receptor family and is one of the immediate early genes, suggesting that TF may participate in the regulation of cell growth. However, the correlation between the expression of TF and cell growth is still unclear.

METHODS.

Expression of TF in 6 glioma cell lines and 44 glioma surgical specimens was studied by Northern blot analysis, Western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, and in situ hybridization.

## Abstract ## BACKGROUND Astrocytic tumors are the most common tumors of the central nervous system. The mechanisms of genetic change of astrocytic tumors have not been understood completely. Recently, survivin has been identified as a member of the inhibitor‐of‐apoptosis family. Survivin express

Although its precise function has not yet been established, galectin-1 seems to play a role in tumor progression. In this study, we investigated galectin-1 mRNA expression in human glioma specimens and glioma cell lines. Northern blot analysis showed higher galectin-1 mRNA levels in glioma tissues.

## Background: It has been suggested that tissue factor (tf) plays an important role in tumor metastasis. its expression in sarcoma cells was reported to up-regulate the vascular endothelial growth factor (vegf) gene and thereby enhance tumor angiogenesis, which is essential to tumor metastasis. al
