The D-type cyclins, involved in the regulation of G 1 progression of the cell cycle, are expressed in a lineage-specific manner. Normal hematopoietic cells express cyclin D2 and/or D3. In order to determine whether their expression pattern changes in lymphoid tumors, we examined cyclin D2 and D3 exp

✦ Synopsis
BACKGROUND.
Barrett esophagus (BE) is a condition in which the normal squamous epithelium of the esophagus is replaced by metaplastic columnar epithelium. BE is a premalignant lesion because it is the initiating factor in a metaplasiadysplasia-carcinoma sequence.
METHODS.
Expression of the proliferation-associated molecule cyclin E was immunohistochemically determined in metaplastic specialized epithelium (SE; n ϭ 24), low grade dysplasia (LGD; n ϭ 21), high grade dysplasia (HGD; n ϭ 17), and invasive adenocarcinoma (CA; n ϭ 35) from 36 esophagectomy specimens. In addition, endoscopically obtained samples of SE with minimal inflammatory changes (n ϭ 11) and SE adjacent to erosions or ulcerations were tested for cyclin E expression.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is able to subvert the host cell replication machinery so as to foster viral reproduction. Specifically, HPV infection is known to induce expression of proliferation antigens such as Ki67 and proliferative cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in differentiated keratinocytes which h
## BACKGROUND. None of the commonly used staging criteria accurately determine the prognosis of a patient with adenocarcinoma of Barrett's esophagus. The authors therefore assessed the expression pattern and prognostic impact of CD44 standard and CD44 isoforms CD44v4, v5,v6,v7, and v10 in adenocar
The retinoblastoma gene (RB) is a typical tumor-suppressor gene. Inactivation of RB has been shown in a variety of human cancers, including esophageal squamous-cell carcinomas. In the present study, samples of normal esophageal squamous epithelium (n ؍ 10), severe squamous-cell dysplasias (n ؍ 1
