## Abstract This paper is intended to provide an experimentalist's contribution to a critical discussion of adsorption energies and their significance. The experimental requirements, with special reference to the limitations and the quality of the information provided by the various techniques are

Abstract
Which information on the properties of the adsorption complex can be obtained from the application of the standard methods in experimental surface science is discussed. None of the methods gives all the information necessary for a complete description of the chemisorption bond so that the results delivered by as many methods as possible should be taken into account.
