✦ Synopsis
The intramolecular reaction from an initially excited state of PRODAN to an energetically lower charge-transfer state is made evident by time-resolved spectral studies at low temperatures in n-butanol. The experimental data clearly show the existence of polar solute-solvent interactions which lead to a relaxation of the excited states.
