## Abstract We have successfully generated the mutisoliton pulses using a Gaussian pulse in a fiber optic ring resonator incorporating an erbiumβdoped fiber (EDF) and a semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs). The multisoliton memory time within the system is also measured. Initially, the Gaussian

β¦ Synopsis
The dependence of light transfer between a curved single-mode fiber and a multimode planar waveguide on the refractive index of the planar waveguide and the wavelength for fiber polished outside and inside its core is investigated experimentally and theoretically. The mechanism of light transfer in such a complex waveguiding system is clarified, revealing the feasibility of bandpass filter action by a coupler with an intact fiber core.

This paper is concerned with a systematic approach for evaluating the optimal placement of an optical amplifier on a fiber link using a direct detection digital transmission system. The optimum position corresponds to maximizing the signalto-noise ratio at the receiver. The presented theory confirms
## Abstract Protein C (PC) is an important anticoagulant in human blood plasma, and early diagnosis of PC deficiency is critical for preventing dangerous thromboembolic complications. A fiberβoptic PC immunoβbiosensor has been under development in our research group for realβtime PCβdeficiency diag
