✦ Synopsis

Since March 1983, police in Western Australia have had the power to request blood and urine samples from suspected drug-affected drivers. The work carried out by the Government Chemical Laboratories is discussed, and a review shows that there is a significant problem, mainly with cannabis, the benzodiazepines and heroin. Evidence is presented which indicates that cannabis can seriously impair driving ability.
