✦ Synopsis

Abstract

Five groups of 587 inbred female mice (WHC) were studied to determine the incidence of tumors as affected by irradiation of different areas. A dose of 400 rad of ^60^Co was given to all the groups. One group of 166 mice was total body irradiated, another group of 90 mice was irradiated in the upper‐third portion of the body, another group of 93 mice was irradiated in the lower two‐thirds of the body, and another group of 90 mice was half body irradiated on the right side. As control, a group of 148 nonirradiated mice was followed. The results showed a different incidence of cancer in mice, depending not only on the irradiated areas but also on the shielded ones. This suggested that other factors besides irradiation affect carcinogenesis.

We have investigated the oncogenic alterations in murine lymphomas induced by in utero exposure to gamma-radiation. The expression of the myc oncogene increased in 23% of the tumors. Alterations in the expression of the ras oncogenes and in the p53 tumor suppressor gene were not characteristic. The

The ability of mice to mount a cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) immune response to SV40 T-antigen is determined by the H-2 haplotype of the host; H-2b and k mice are high responders and H-2d mice are low responders. Mice of these 3 H-2 haplotypes were challenged with SV40 and their ability to generate a

## Abstract Mammary tumor virus (MuMTV)‐negative mouse substrain C57BL/Haag foster‐nursed by strain DD becomes a line with a moderately high incidence of mammary tumors occurring in the females at a late age. Electron microscopy revealed B particles in the tumors, providing additional evidence for
