โฆ Synopsis
Using neutron scattering we have investigated the magnetic correlations in single crystals with the nominal composition Bi2Sr2PrCu2Os+6 โข We have shown that while the Pr moment remains paramagnetic down to 1.3K, a long-range, three-dimensional, antiferromagnetic ordering of the Cu +2 spins occurs below a N~el temperature T~ ~ 350K. Assuming collinear spins, Lb.e exptrimental data are well accounted for by a model consisting of two antiferromagnetic, YBa~Cu306+~ -type CuO2 bdayers, having a threedimensional coupling of the La2Cu04 -type, i.e. the spins are parallel to the [100] direction and the magnetic propagation vector is ~'-(0, 1, 0). The resulting ordered moment per Cu mn measured at 10K is found to be mcu -(0.7 ยฑ 0.1)#B, compatible with a system of hghtly doped CuO2 layers.
