✦ Synopsis

Ihe structure of CeHi intermediate formed in the gas-phase reaction of C~HG with C2H: has been the subject of much speculation due to its importance as 2 test case for theories of unimoleculv decay.

Isotopically labeled product distributions from recent crossed-&m studies and previous mass-spectrometer observations suzest a methyl-substituted protonated cyclopropane as 2 possible structure. Experimental evidence strondy indicates 2 long-lived intermediate in which the ring hydrogens are completely randomized prior to unimolecular decay of the complex.
