โœฆ Synopsis

The efficacy of a number of locally produced admixtures for waterproofing earth walls has been examined. The materials include banana liquor, cement, bitumen and locust bean mesocarp using 5% and 10% concentrations on two different lateritic soils. The specimens were tested for absorption, erosion wash-off, accelerated durability and strength. The results showed that palm oil admixture absorbed the least (0.45 %), cement and locust bean gained strength (3 % -22 %) with age, but all others lost strength with age. The durability and erosion tests revealed cement, biturnous emulsion and locust bean addltlues as more durable and erosion resistant than untreated earth.
