An inhibition study showed that the stereoselective hydrolysis of butyryl propranolol (butyryl PL) in rat liver microsomes and plasma involves carboxylesterase. The hydrolysis of (S)-butyryl PL in plasma was specifically inhibited by eserine and bis-nitrophenyl phosphate (BNPP), compared to the (R)-
