✦ Synopsis

This paper explores the importance of knowledge-based capabilities of educational establishments with an orientation towards strategic indicators of knowledge management. For the purpose of this paper, the relationship between strategic approach and knowledge management capabilities of universities has been analysed through a comprehensive review of related literature and identification of related measures. Since there have been few efforts in concentrating on the relationships among strategic viewpoints of universities and knowledge management capabilities, there has been an attempt to conceptualise a pervasive model which encompasses influential indicators on knowledge-based competency of universities regarding their capabilities in strategic knowledge management. An exploratory factor analysis has been conducted in order to identify the most important factors affecting the successful management of knowledge so as to gain the knowledge-based competency.
